About Glenroy Bakery

Glenroy Bakery is a family-owned and operated business that has been serving Melbourne for over 60 years. We take pride in our commitment to quality, freshness, and tradition, offering a wide variety of delicious baked goods for both wholesale and retail customers.

Our History

1970s: Original business on Glenroy Rd
1970s: Original business on Glenroy Rd

Starting out as a one-man operation, Glenroy Bakery has grown into one of the largest independent bakery distributors in the Melbourne metro area. Founded in 1962 by Antonio and Caterina Cristiano, our story is one of family, hard work, and a dedication to deliciousness.

Antonio kick-started the business by purchasing loaves of bread from a local bakery and making deliveries direct to homes in the Glenroy area. This one-man band soon grew into a dream, with Antonio purchasing land and building a dedicated wholesale bakery in 1962.  The bakery quickly expanded, necessitating a move to a larger purpose-built building in Blenheim St, Glenroy in 1988.

In 2000, Antonio left management of Glenroy Bakery to the next generation and at the age of 70 went on to open a new business, Cottage Cheese Farm

Over the past 6 decades, Glenroy Bakery has diversified its offerings, becoming a premier independent wholesale supplier of bread, cakes, and hot food in Melbourne.  We are proud to partner with numerous businesses, including Spotless Catering, Compass, Catercare, and ALH, and specialise in fulfilling large wholesale orders.

Today, Glenroy Bakery boasts over 70 employees and produces a staggering 200 unique products.  Our commitment to quality and innovation was recognised in 2020 when we were nominated by the Moreland City Council for the Northern Business Achievement Award and received the Outstanding Initiative in Manufacturing award from the Moreland City Council. You can watch our nomination video here.  After 60 years, we are still passionate about supplying Melbourne with delicious baked goods, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for generations to come.

A Tradition of Giving Back

Glenroy Bakery has always believed in giving back to the community.  This dedication to community spirit is a core value that has been with us since the bakery's inception.  A heartwarming example of this tradition comes from a 1977 article in the local newspaper, Broadglen Publishing Company.

The article titled "Our Very Own Easter Bunny" tells the story of how, for many years, Tony and Caterina Cristiano would send a tray of piping hot Hot Cross Buns to the staff at Broadglen Publishing Company, whose office was located next door to the bakery, for their Easter morning tea. This thoughtful gesture, a testament to Cristiano's generosity, exemplifies the spirit of giving that continues to define Glenroy Bakery.
